Willie made his first appearance for Dundee Hibs as a trialist. He was not signed then and instead went to Gillingham and later St Johnstone. He came to Tannadice as a signed player just after the beginning of season 1924-25 by which time the Club had become Dundee United. Willie became a regular in the side that won the Second Division championship and made a significant contribution to the Club’s first season in the top flight of Scottish football but was released at the end of the campaign. He then joined Brighton & Hove Albion.
