Lance signed from Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer. He had also been on loan at York City, Oldham Athletic, Portsmouth, Oxford United, Lincoln City, Hartlepool United and Rochdale. He arrived as understudy to Ally Maxwell who was out injured but his chance of regular first team football evaporated with the arrival of Sieb Dijkstra and after a short spell on loan at Tranmere Rovers, Lance was released and joined Sheffield United.
