Guido was with BVV Den Bosch and had also been with NEC Nijmegen. He was first choice at United for most of 1991-92, but fell out of favour and was transfer listed, spending almost all of the next year in the reserves. Restored to the first team in November 1993, Guido then kept the No. 1 jersey until the final match of the season, when he played his last game for United as a winner in the Scottish Cup final. A contractual dispute froze him out of football until he secured a permanent move to Dunfermline Athletic for an undisclosed fee in January 1995.
