Pat started his football career as a left-half when he signed for Falkirk from Croy Celtic Juniors at the start of 1935. He later moved on a free transfer to Leith Athletic and later King's Park before he eventually arrived at Tannadice. Illness and injury curtailed his football career, and having failed to make many appearances, he was released in 1938.

After serving in the RAF during the war he then concentrated on his true profession of teaching, noted to have been a retired headmaster at the time of his death.

Thank you to John Meffen.
