Vale of Leven were eventually relegated to the short lived Third tier of Scottish Football, and after one more meeting between the clubs in the Scottish Cup in 1927, The Vale were discontinued in 1929. The current club were formed in 1939 and have spent the majority of their time in the Scottish Junior League.
