First Team Debuts

Milestones

United failed to topple the recently crowned League Champions but at least ended Aberdeen's run of total success at Tannadice, The hard pitch and windy conditions were not conducive to good football, but despite that, and the academic nature of the fixture, this was an entertaining game, especially in the second half.

It was in that second period that both sides came closest to scoring. Jim Leighton made, at least, five international class saves to keep United at bay. But Hamish McAlpine was also busy, especially when he palmed a Cowan header on to the post, before it was cleared to safety. The point gained by Aberdeen allowed them to equal our record Premier points total amassed the previous season.
