First Team Debuts

In what was one of the tamer Dundee derbies, we ran out comfortable winners, despite, once again, failing to produce our best form, the first half hour being a noticeable exception.

Harnessing the wind advantage from the kick-off we immediately dictated play and Davie Dodds almost converted a Paul Sturrock cross in the first minute. Kevin Gallacher featured prominently in the opening half, with a mazy run from his own half and missing an opening created by Eamonn Bannon. However, the youngster was involved in what proved to be our winning goal. Paul Sturrock fed Kevin on the right, he sprinted to the bye-line past Shannon and sent over the perfect cross from which Richard Gough powered in a header past Geddes.

Dundee certainly had more of the ball in the second period but rarely threatened Billy Thomson who had to wait until the 88th minute before being seriously tested. So United emerged victors in a game so vital in view of our League Title aspirations and Dundee's European ambitions.
