First Team Debuts

Broomfield on a wet Monday evening and Airdrie to be faced in a Cup replay it is not a prospect to be relished, especially after the way in which the First Division side acquitted themselves so well at Tannadice. However, we got off to a good start and Iain Ferguson had a couple of early strikes on goal. Airdrie's reply was a long range shot by Templeton, but in 20 minutes there was a shock for us. Dave MacCabe ran on to a high ball, drew Billy Thomson and slid the ball home from a narrow angle. We seemed to step up a gear after this set-back and Paul Kinnaird carved out the equaliser. He popped up on the right and fired in a low cross which Kevin Gallacher dummied to allow Iain Ferguson to thump the ball home from around 8 yards. The game continued at high pace and Iain might as well have put us ahead but volleyed high and wide from a good position. Before the interval Billy Thomson saved well from a Lawrie free-kick.

That match was only three minutes into the second half when we took the lead Paul Kinnaird found Eamonn Bannon on the right and his curling cross was met by Kevin Gallacher who headed strongly past the keeper. There was no further scoring as play swung from end to end, though Iain Ferguson did hit the post after a superb through pass from Ian Redford.
