First Team Debuts

Ralph Milne reached 75 goals for the Club.

R.C. Lens looked a better side at Tannadlce than in the first leg. Having said that their defensive formation threatened rarely. The best chance we created came when Ian Redford's dipping volley from 25 yards was touched on to the bar by Huard. Just before half-time there was a major scare when Billy Thomson averted disaster, flicking the ball for a corner, from which Carreno shot narrowly over.

The second half opened with United pressing strongly and the relief was heard all round Tannadice when the equaliser came. Paul Sturrock chased a through ball as the French defenders ball-watched. Huard, their 'keeper dashed from his charge and Paul Sturrock clipped the ball back into the middle. Ralph Milne collected with his right and hammered the ball past the two defenders on the line. Four minutes later Ralph Milne helped us strike again. Eamonn Bannon's pass sprung their off-slde trap, Ralph Milne ran through and squared for Tommy Coyne to scoop the ball into the net. So despite the relative inexperience in Europe we still retained our tag as European specialists.
