This fixture created something of a record for Scottish 'League football with no less than eight of the twenty-two players on the field hailing from Scandinavia. But it was the homegrown talent which grabbed the limelight with United's Dennis Gillespie and Doug Smith the game's top men. Things looked bright for the home side when, despite a Jimmy Briggs penalty miss, they led by two goals to nil at the interval, Finn Døssing and Dennis Gillespie being the marksmen. But things changed soon after the interval after first, McGraw netted a simple goal for Morton then ex-Dens Parker Bobby Adamson hammered in a glorious equaliser. From then on it looked certain that the men from Greenock were going to take home the points — until the dying minutes ! Persson crossed from the right and Frannie Munro was given time and space to bullet a winning header past Eric Sorensen.
