A canter in the end, but it took almost half an hour of constant pressure to break down the Montrose defence. Tom Coyne scored the first. Dodds prodded in the second, then a volley by Dave Narey deceived Charles. Millar bundled in one for Montrose, then Richard Gough headed in a corner. Tom Coyne punished a defensive error, and Maurice Malpas scored the last.
