Deprived of so many players, our under-strength side made lightweight of what is usually a tough task, by crushing Forfar. Eamonn Bannon was the mainspring of the victory. He scored the first and instigated all three other goals to enable united to qualify for the final where we'll meet Montrose. Forfar had an early chance when Craig Brewster's netbound shot was cleared off the line by Dave Beaumont. That, however, was virtually the only threat Forfar posed, we went ahead in the 22 minute when Eamonn Bannon dragged the ball across the face of the penalty box before firing a low angular drive into the corner of the net. Eamonn then turned provider four minutes later when he set Dave Bowman clear down the middle and Dave went on to neatly beat the 'keeper. The pressure on the Forfar goal continued after the break and the two first half scorers combined to create a chance for Tommy Coyne, who shot high into the net. Four minutes later Ian Redford was brought down on the bye-line. Eamonn Bannon curled over the free kick which John Clark's gIancing deflected into the far corner of the net.
