First Team Debuts

Milestones

Perhaps it was Hearts mid-week Cup exertions, but. this latest meeting, the sixth of the season between the pair, proved decidedly stale beer. Goalmouth incidents were few and far between.

Things perked up in the second half, however, and United should have taken the lead first when a slack pass-back by Sandy Jardine let substitute Alex Taylor in. Henry Smith blocked his effort, but the bait broke to Paul Sturrock who played the ball across the face of the goal but Davie Dodds shot wide of the empty goal.

The breakthrough came with just over quarter of an hour left. Alex Taylor weaved past two defenders before curling the ball into the middle, Kidd only partially cleared and Maurice Malpas hammered a first-time volley high into the net.
