Milestones

In front of a crowd of less than a thousand, United beat Morton to move back into third place with this victory, the third over Morton this season. United went ahead after only 12 minutes when Ralph Milne floated over a free-kick which Richard Gough nodded firmly past McDermott.

Despite almost all the play, it took until the 68th minute for United to increase their lead. Billy Kirkwood's run down the right ended with a shot at McDermott which the 'keeper failed to hold, and Davie Dodds knocked in the second from close range. The third goal didn't come until the closing minutes when Substitute Alex Taylor crossed the bail for Davie Dodds to head in between Holmes and McDermott.
