First Team Debuts

Milestones

It was another triumphant European night at Tannadice for United. However, the Swedes almost put the tie beyond reach in the first minute when Johansson shot just wide. Determined in defence and sharp up front, A.I.K. posed numerous problems to United who failed to pull back the deficit in the first half.

Almost immediately on the restart the dead-lock was broken. Ralph Milne's cross was met by Davie Dodds but Ljung made a fine save only for Paul Sturrock to knock in the rebound. United stepped up the pace and took an aggregate lead. Eamonn Bannon sent over the perfect cross for Davie Dodds to bullet in a header which the keeper couldn't hold and Ralph Milne made no mistake from close-in. The tie was over three minutes later when a Maurice Malpas crossed to Ralph Milne who crashed the ball into the roof of the net.
