First Team Debuts

A run of three successive defeats was halted by this first away win of the season which was achieved as easily as the score suggests. United could have been two ahead after only three minutes as John Clark headed just over and Maurice Malpas shot narrowly past. The opening goal came in the 22nd minute when Eamonn Bannon slung over a cross and Davie Dodds nipped in to head home.

The second goal also came from an Eamonn Bannon cross. This time Paul Hegarty's looping header from Eamonn's corner found the net.

Morton put up slightly stiffer resistance after the interval but we went further ahead when Jim Duffy failed to cut out Dave Beaumont's cross which Davie Dodds controlled before despatching past McDermott from 12 yards.
