Our second visit across the road within 48 hours saw a vastly changed Tannadice eleven extract instant revenge for that League reversal. With the Cup Final only five days away, it was a youthful United side that earned another Final appearance. This time in the County Cup. Especially pleasing was the fact that they had to come from behind to achieve it. Dundee hit two within five minutes thanks to a Ray Stephen flick and a Derek McWilliams counter from a corner. Just on the break Davie Dodds headed in strongly to reduce the arrears.

Four minutes into the second half, Ralph Milne struck home a penalty following a foul on Dodds. United's winner came when John Clark's long clearance out of defence was picked up by Ralph Milne. He ran on before chipping the advancing Geddes, but John Reilly ran in to smack the ball into the net to ensure the ball crossed the line for our winner.
