First Team Debuts

Markland was left on the bench for United for this Cup match at Parkhead. Craig was benched for Celtic. This was United's second match in the Scottish Cup after defeating Ayr United in the previous round.

United never looked comfortable in this game and were under pressure from the off. The tangerines struggled to get out there own half in the opening ten minutes and therefore it was no surprise when Celtic scored after 15 minutes. Forward Hughes was the man to open the scoring for the Celts on a chilly day in Glasgow. United began to grow into the game but were dealt a sucker punch minutes before the interval when Hughes doubled his own and his team's goal tally with a great finish.

The second half did not get any better for United and in truth they did not look like a team confident of overturning a two goal deficit. There was even less confidence around just before the hour when Lou Macari finished from close in. Then to compound United's misery Willie Wallace made it 4-0 in the 77th minute. A day to forget for United who were dumped out the Scottish Cup. Celtic were to draw Rangers in the next round.
