First Team Debuts

After drawing 1-1 at Tannadice the previous Saturday, the huge interest in this northeast Scottish Cup tie attracted Pittodrie's biggest crowd of the season inside the fire damaged stadium despite the atrocious conditions. United held the Dons at bay in the first half against the strong wind. Their chances were further boosted when Dons top scorer Joe Harper was carried off after colliding with Hamish McAlpine at the start of the second half. However, United's strikers never troubled Bobby Clark and the defence was finally breached in the 67th minute when Henning Boel swooped on to Robb's header to knock the ball in off the post. Davie Robb's goal two minutes from time was almost academic with Aberdeen very much in charge. The Tannadice heroes were Hamish McAlpine and Wattie Smith, but even their efforts were insufficient to prevent Aberdeen advancing into the quarter-finals
