Milestones

This match has no report.

The season is hardly under way yet already we find ourselves pitch forked into a hectic period involving cup and league games, at home and abroad.

Right away I would like to say just how pleased I am with the present state of affairs. Our league cup programme has been most exciting and with September bringing a state of top league games and the start of the Fairs Cup, it promises to be a period full of interest.

In the past week arrangements were completed with Grasshoppers of Zurich and the games will be played on Tuesday 15th at Tannadice and the 30th in Switzerland. A lot of factors had to be taken into consideration for the first game. But we feel certain the arrangement will be a satisfactory one.

On the games to date I have been most pleased with the performances and I would like to single out the, new players to give them special credit.

With Kenny Cameron out of action, Ian Reid has stepped into a difficult role and has emerged as a real prospect and Tommy Traynor has exceeded all expectations on the wing. At Parkhead I consider Tommy was one of our big stars but unfortunately he was not given the press credit he deserved.

Another player I would like to mention is Stuart Markland who is operating as a defence pillar with Doug Smith. I feel Stuarts contribution so far has been most important and his power and strength in the middle has gone a long way towards us tightening up in the rear.

Today Clyde are our visitors and we all know what a difficult side they are to beat. At Shawfield we shared the points but we simply must improve on this in view or Celtics visit on Wednesday.

Three days later we entertain Hibs in the first League game of the season and everything is building up nicely for the important month of September.
