Milestones

This victory stretched United's winning sequence to five league games and served asfurther confirmation that a Premier League placing under reconstruction was to be theirs for the taking. Thereafter the Tannadice side required only three points from their remaining six to clinch things. However, victory was not secured as easily as the scoreline suggests with the men from Gayfield battling all the way to attempt to offset a disastrous opening half for them. Andy Rolland sent United into an early lead before Jimmy Bone replied for the visitors. Iain McDonald completed an exciting opening twenty minutes when he restored United's lead and a Paul Hegarty addition took United in at the break in a comfortable postion. Arbroath fought particularly hard in the second half without any reward for their efforts
