First Team Debuts

The Tannadice side got off to a tragic start when they were awarded a spotkick just twelve seconds from the opening whistle. However, Doug Smith sent the ball wide from the award. Tom McAdam, later to join United, made us pay for that early failure when he nodded the visitors into the lead just on the interval. However, Andy Gray supplied a sparkling double to ease United ahead before Denis Ruddy and Ian Wallace changed things again with another two for Dumbarton. But with only minutes remaining Andy Gray nodded home his own hat trick and United's saver to level things again.
