Jim McLean sought a two goal advantage from this game but although that wasn't achieved, the United will be confident that the single goal they did get may be enough.United got the vital lead in 66 minutes. Gordon Wallace struck a shot but it rebounded off a defender. Paul Sturrock was first to react and fired the ball into the net.United could have scored more, Kirkwood missed a simple chance early on and Wallace hit the bar just after half-time in the best move of the match. The Danes had the best of their chances in the second half and maybe gave United some warnings as to what might be in store for them in the return leg.McLean sent Hegarty up front in search of that desired second goal but that wasn't to be.
