First Team Debuts

After announcing that goalkeeper Don Mackay would be given a free transfer at the end of the season, manager Jim McLean made only one change from last weeks defeat to Ayr United, with Stuart Markland making way for Jim Cameron. United were decked out in their white kit for this one.

In the early stages Kopel had a chance but shot over before Harper fire past McAlpine's right hand post at the other end. United were dominating play and Gardner missed a chance in the 16th minute when it seemed easier to score. Eight minutes later Gardner sent in a high cross that Clark failed to deal with, and Ian Mitchell blasted high into the net to put United ahead. In the 31st minute, Wilson appeared to handle after a scramble in the box and referee Ian Foote pointed to the spot, and the ever reliable Doug Smith gave Clark no chance with his penalty kick.

United controlled the second half, with any Aberdeen attacks thwarted with United's offside trap and defender Jackie Copland kept the usually dangerous Joe Harper quiet.
