Milestones
Alan Gordon reached 10 goals for the Club.

White-covered Parkhead perfectly illustrated the night that United ran into a Celtic goalstorm. Strangely enough it was not a simple matter of United playing all that badly rather an occasion when they faced a Celtic outfit which was positively brilliant.

The Tannadice side were two goals behind within 16 minutes after Bertie Auld and Harry Hood had done the damage. But back came United and after Jim Brogan had handled a netbound Alan Gordon header, Ian Mitchell tucked away the resultant award.

But that consolation was shortlived when a Tommy Gemmell penalty at the other end and and a John Hughes goal sent the Parkhead side in at the break with a tremendous advantage.

Willie Wallace made it 5-1 seconds after the restart and added another soon after as Celtic ran amok. But it was the Tannadice side who scored next when Alan Gordon nodded in a great Davie Wilson cross. But Celtic were not to be denied and Bobby Murdoch completed the scoring with a 25 yarder.
