First Team Debuts

Milestones
Ian Mitchell played his 250th major competitive game for the Club.

Played at an unrelenting pace this was a game which left the fans breathless. Only two minutes were on the clock when Killie forged ahead with a text-book goal. Tommy McLean beat Doug Smith out on the wing before crossing for top scorer Ross Mathie to head home.

Three minutes later and United were level. Alex Reid's through ball was picked up by Ian Mitchell who tucked the ball away between McLaughlin and his right-hand post. The action continued unabated with United missing a penalty on the the half hour mark. Davie Wilson was up-ended in the box, but Denis Gillespie drove the ball wide of the target.

There was another burst of scoring midway through the second half. From Davie Wilson's hard-driven low cross, Alan Gordon, on his knees, steered the ball into the net. But there was no time to rest on their laurels because just within two minutes, Killie had equalised. A defensive blunder allowed Eddie Morrison to gain possession and he streaked through the Tannadice rearguard to drive home strongly from ten yards. There was pandemonium five minutes from the end when McGrory brought down Gordon for a second penalty. Again Gillespie stepped up to take the spot-kick, but he incredibly missed the target for the second time in the match.

None.
