First Team Debuts

Milestones

United wore white shirts today and Thistle were in red and yellow hoops. The Firhill club had scored in every game this season. Heavy rain had kept the attendance down.

Hogg deceives Thistle after fifteen minutes. As he looks to make a standard cross he twists at the last minute and the ball cuts inside the confused players but Gordon is inches from connecting. United were pounding the Thistle goal in the first half and Ritchie had to save well from a Mitchell drive. Then Rolland came boring through the defence only to squander the chance. Some of United's finishing brings groans from the home support. Wilson and Gordon played in a couple of great crosses but the strikers were posted missing.

United continued to attack from the start of the second half but Thistle were better on the counter. MacKay was forced to save from Laurie on one such foray up the park. Duncan also sent a flying header past the post. Then it was the turn of United when Hogg fired a long range effort at Ritchie. Then the breakthrough arrived. Ian Mitchell scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute. He was able to find space in the goal mouth full of players and stabbed home. Midway through the second half a golf ball was thrown from the back of the covered enclosure. The missile which narrowly missed the players was handed to the police.

None.
