After just seven minutes the Broomfield men found themselves a goal down in front of just over 4000 at Tannadice Park. Goodwin fisted away a Markland header from a Wilson free-kick and a penalty was awarded. Dennis Gillespie scored the spot kick. Mackay then had to make two point blank saves from Airdrie attacks. Delaney then hooked the ball into his own net for an own goal in 14 minutes. Then on 17 minutes it was all but over for Airdrie when Kenny Cameron side footed home a low cross from Mitchell. Davie Wilson then made it four when he first timed a Markland cross into the net on 32 minutes. An amazing first half from United was complete when on 38 minutes, Ian Scott played a one-two with Wilson and slotted home. Marshall got one back for Airdrie in 40 minutes. There was only going to be one winner in this match although Airdrie produced a much better second half display. In the end they won the second half by scoring the only goal in the second period. In 63 minutes J Whiteford netted following a good pass form Marshall. HAving lost 6-0 the previous week to Morton, United would be mighty happy with this high scoring win.
