First Team Debuts

United comprehensively dumped Motherwell out of the cup to gain a place in the semi-finals for the 13th time. Dominant from the start, the only surprise was that the tie was still in the balance come the interval.

However, the second period was just a couple of minutes old when Andy McLaren rammed in the opener from Kjell Olofeson's pass.

Robbie Winters headed in the second to provide the perfect finish to a flowing move; the third came gift-wrapped courtesy of the Motherwell defence, enabling Robbie Winters to tee up an easy chance for Andy McLaren's second.

Motherwell had a brief flirtation with success when Sieb Dyksira coudn't keep out fellow Dutchman van der Gaag's header.

Three minutes from time United made it four, this time Oloffson notched after Howie had only parried a Robbie Winters shot.

United's first goal unfortunately missing.
