First Team Debuts

Milestones

Jim McLean fielded the side that won 2-1 at Pittodrie almost a month ago and this tactical ploy worked to perfection as United controlled the game for long spells. Indeed there were only two moments of anxiety for the United defence in the entire 90 minutes. The first just before half-time ended with Paul Hegarty clearmg Grundel's shot off the line.

The second came in the 73rd minute and again Grundel was the threat with a vicious left-foot shot that flashed inches past. United however, contrived the greater of chances and Ralph Milne hit the cross-bar, Eamonn Bannon went close on a couple of occasions and Davie Dodds also nearly scored what could have been a vital away counter.
