First Team Debuts

Milestones

United couldn't have asked for a better start when John Reilly hooked the ball home in two minutes' following a goalmouth incident, from an Eamonn Bannon cross. The ball rarely left Hamrun's half but a second goal didn't materialise until 34 minutes when Ralph Milne supplied the cross for Eamonn Bannon to head in on the run.

John Reilly struck the upright early in the second half but despite almost incessant pressure United managed only one further score. That came in the 67th minute when a Richard Gough header was blocked on the line but Derek Stark following blasted the ball into the roof of the net, Two Maltese players, Gaetano Refalo and George Xuereb and Richard Gough of United were all shown the yellow card.
