First Team Debuts

Milestones

This tie got off to a marvellous start with both sides creating several chances. Gradually, however. United asserted a degree of ascendancy and ended on top at the end of a highly entertaining affair.

The second half was marred by fog which billowed over the ground just after the restart. Conditions deteriorated quickly and only a slight improvement prevented the match from being abandoned.

Many United fans failed to see United open the scoring, Richard Gough headed a free kick across the face or the goal, the Rangers defence failed to clear and Davie Dodds was on hand to steer the ball over the line. Unfortunately, most of the Tannadice faithful were at the wrong end to see substitute Dave Mitchell head in a Redford cross four minutes from time.
