First Team Debuts

Milestones

It took just 3 minutes for United to go ahead. John Reilly broke down the right, crossed and Davie Dodds' header squirmed over the line after Houston had parried. There was a shock for United in the 15th minute when player/manager Willie Garner's shot from a free-kick by Purdie was saved by Hamish McAlpine but Lloyd flicked the ball to Drew Paterson who scored.

Two minutes later Eamonn Bannon's quickly taken freekick found John Reilly in the clear and the centre ran on to shoot home from an acute angle. Five minutes later United extended their lead, Davie Dodds crossed, Paul Hegarty nodded down for Ralph Milne to volley home.

Willie Garner reduced the arrears from the spot a minute before half-time and Eamonn Bannon did likewise in the 65th minute, after a Hegarty header had been handled, to complete the scoring.
