First Team Debuts

Milestones

United followed up their sparkling display of the opening day of the season with six of the best against Dunfermline to virtually clinch a place in the third round stages of the competition. The rout started in the 8th minute when Richard Gough's diving header from an Eamonn Bannon cross beat Whyte at his left hand post. United's international full back was on target again 13 minutes later when Richard Gough beat 'keeper Whyte in the same spot with a low drive from almost 25 yards. Even that effort paled against John Holt's spectacular volley from 30 yards eleven minutes later.

Seven minutes into the second half Alex Taylor ran on to a Ralph Milne flick to volley home the fourth. On the hour mark Davie Dodds slotted home his first goal of the season following a scramble in the Pars' penalty box. Three minutes later Pars pulled one back when a Steve Morrison header was parried on to the post by Hamish McAlpine but unluckily rebounded into the net via Hamish's body. Eamonn Bannon completed the scoring 20 minutes from time when he headed in an accurate Alex Taylor cross.
